Feature & Follow #21

Feature & Follow is a blog hop hosted by Parajunkee & Alison Can Read.

This weeks Question:

Vlog Contest! Vlog about why you want to be next weeks feature! If you are too shy to put yourself on camera – tell us why you are sooo shy.

Oh to be able to put myself on camera. *sight* That would be awesome. But, as you can see that is simply not going to happen. To be that brave.

When I was a kid, I was extremely shy. It's something that I might have grown out of, but life had a different idea. I developed a chronic illness, a side-effect of cancer meds I took when I was a baby (No worries, I've been cured since the age of 3). It's nothing serious, but it caused me to miss a lot of school. The shyness developed into shyness, plus awkwardness then a healthy dose of fear was added later. As you may have guessed, I now have a social disorder. So at the age of 31, I still have the chronic illness, which is only slightly worse than it used to be. Thank God for small favors.

I am unable to work, so I do not have many opportunities to work on my social disorder. That's one of the reasons I started this blog. Books are one of the few things in this world that I am completely comfortable with. They're my safe place when I'm scared.  They're another world when I'm to sore and tired to leave the house. So I decided to start a book blog. It was my way to be brave and safe at the same time. Every post, comment and email response is a small victory for me and a chance to connect with people who love books just as much as I do.

So that is why I'm to shy to leave a video. Yeah for everyone who is brave enough to Vlog!!!

  1. Hi, love the design of your blog. I am not brave enough to do a Vlog myself. I feel so awkward on camera. I'm not sure why but it is so much easier for me to express myself in writing than by talking. It's odd because I'm the only one in my family that doesn't like to be the center of attention.

    1. Thanks! My family is like that too. My brother would have jumped at a chance to be on camera. :)

  2. I couldn't vlog, either. I just didn't feel comfortable sitting down in front of my computer to film myself, and then share that on the internet. And really, I've only seen three vlogs so far, after visiting 18 blogs this morning. So I think it's safe to say that most bookbloggers want to keep to the written words :)

I'm a new Bloglovin' follower. Have a fantastic Friday!

  3. Oh I am right there with you. I am a shy person as well. I've had 7 surgeries due to my own illness--it wasn't a dangerous sort. But yeah, I had lots of time out of school, so maybe that's where my own shyness comes from as well. Plus I did have trouble making and keeping friends...always seemed to find the wrong people.

But also I hate being in front of a camera. Not fun for me. Always end up hating the results. And add on to that...my laptop is from 2005 when I started college, so it's webcam free. And I have no intention of buying one since I loathe being in front of a camera! :D

    Here's my Follow Friday

    Have a GREAT weekend!

    1. I also had trouble making and keeping friends. Even if I did not have my social disorder I so would not have vlogged. I hate being in front of a camera too. I feel like an ass the entire time and my voice does this weird thing when it's recorded. I end up sounding like a 5 year old. So the results are never pretty.

      Death to the webcam! :)

  4. I feel ya on the social disorder... I'm right there with ya. The camera doesn't bother me, just actual people. LOL That sounds terrible. New follower via Bloglovin'. I made a video... It's pretty goofy.

  6. Maybe that's why we're all blogging and writing. To be able to speak and heard even without talking. I'm with you--everyone (seems like everyone's shy and now I have one more reason to love blogging and reading).

    Here's my FF.
